Robots, figures, art toys and the craft of collecting

Latest

Colourway is the word that makes this kind of collecting legible. One sculpt is tooled once, then issued again and again in different paint applications, so a line that looks enormous is a handful of moulds wearing different finishes. Knowing that, a collector reads a new release correctly: the question is never what the figure is, but which scheme it carries and whether that scheme has appeared on other sculpts.

Which is why a list like this one is the spine of the whole archive. The schemes recur across sculpts and across scales, and they carry their own followings — a name that reads as nonsense to an outsider identifies a palette, a weathering style and sometimes a faction in the fiction. Sorting the range by scheme rather than by sculpt shows what was actually produced, and the gaps in the grid are where the rare pieces sit.
