Robots, figures, art toys and the craft of collecting

Latest

Two scales run through this whole line, and confusing them is the commonest mistake a new collector makes. The larger one is a sixth-scale figure of real size and weight, sold at a price to match; the portable line shrinks the same designs to something that fits a hand, keeps the articulation and drops the cloth. Same sculpt name, same colourway names, very different objects.

The scale also decides what a paint scheme can do. On the large figure, weathering is painted and sometimes sprayed by hand, with chipping and grime placed where wear would fall; at portable size the same scheme is reduced to its blocks of colour, because a scratch a millimetre wide disappears. This is why a scheme that reads as battered on the big robot reads as graphic and almost clean on the small one, and why collectors of one scale rarely mix the two on a shelf.
